Because as soon as things can be experienced visually, they take on a new quality and automatically become more understandable and transparent. The best example of such a groundbreaking development is the use of X-rays in medicine and science.
With the "glass woman,” RMH MEDIA has digitally brought Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen’s fascinating work to life for the German Röntgen Museum in Remscheid. The interactive application, which provides fascinating insights into the human body, complements the museum's ambitious concept in an extraordinary way.
We fully support this mission statement at RMH MEDIA.
That is why the glass woman is much more than just a digital visualization – it is available to visitors as an interactive AR (augmented reality) application at the museum and as a web version from home. In the museum, up to three people can simultaneously "scan" the glass woman with provided iPads, and embark on a journey of exploration through the body in real time. The scanner app provides additional information during scanning, and enables visitors to experience the glass woman in a playful way, at their own pace and tailored to their individual interests.
The primary challenge in developing the application was to ensure optimal tracking of the real glass woman from different angles. This required a great deal of experimentation because the reflective surface and the transparent parts of the figure were hard to capture for the iPad cameras. However, it’s exactly these kind of challenges that motivate us in projects like this: weeks of testing until everything works flawlessly culminating in an accessible app which can be used intuitively by all visitors and is convincing in terms of both content and visuals. And at the end, there is always that indescribable feeling of joy and pride at having done it again.
We are proud to support the German Röntgen Museum in their transformation from a science-centered, specialized museum to a more universally accessible, interactive museum with the glass woman exhibit.
You can find a virtual replica of the glass woman on the museum’s website at: https://roentgenmuseum.de/museum/
Please note: The glass woman is only available on the desktop version of their website – and only if it’s set to German language.
